Sweden – Finland – Estonia

Summer of 2003. 3 friends.

it’s our first trip abroad. We found that we can fly with low cost companies, to visit a lot of european countries, spendind almost nothing. We had 3 flights to reach Stockholm (we were young, mad and had no money in our pocket). Then we planned to move to Finland, and finally to Estonia.

We had to stop in Lübeck for some hours, waiting for the next flight: it was a wonderfull surprise. We had the chance to know this beautifull German city near Hamburg. But the time spent there was too short…

When we arrive in Stockholm it’s late evening, and we haven’t any reservation, so we arranged to spend the night in a camping. The next morning we decide to change itinerary.

After some cruises we reach Tallin, and we immediately fall in love of the city: a real jewel in the Baltic Sea. Viru Gate, with it’s towers, is the entrance of the Old City, full of little streets, like in an old medieval Town. The center of the city is Raekoja square, the real heart of Tallin’s life. We also had the chance to enjoy Tallin’s nightlife, very intense during weekend.

The next destination is Helsinki. We felt a great difference. Scandinavian countries are very modern, and we saw it in every corner of the streets.

Our tour ended in Stockholm (the first destination in our original plan). We slept in a famous boat-hostel. The city is magical, called the Venice of the North due to its waterways on the Baltic Sea.

It’s time to come back. We will take 3 flights to come back home, sleeping at the airport to catch an early flight. It’s the end of the trip. We will keep the memory of 3 mad young guys, who went abroad for 20 days, with no experience and no organization. And we made a promise: we will come back after 10 years. Almost 20 year passed and this promise isn’t kept yet… 🙂
